What is Botox?

Botox is a Muscle relaxant agent used to reduce and illuminate facial lines and wrinkles. The injection of Botox is both a science and an art, only experienced injectors can achieve the finest results. We are located in Lakewood, Colorado and have combined years of experience in providing advanced Botox treatments.

How are wrinkles caused?

Facial lines and wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial expressions, such as grimacing, squinting and smiling. These repetitive movements cause our faces to repeatedly contract, well as we age, the last is the inner skin decreases. This results in lines and wrinkles appearing on our faces, even at rest. For both men and women, the typical areas where lines and wrinkles appear first are worry lines across the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows (11’s) and crows feet at the corners of the eyes.

Botox is used to temporarily relax the facial muscles responsible for these repetitive contractions. Botox reduces the activity in the muscles, which prevent the skin from wrinkling. The result of Botox is a smoothing affect. Botox, when administered correctly, does not paralyze the facial muscles or keep patients from expressing themselves, Botox simply softens and rebalances facial movements that have become habitual and repetitive over the years. This results in a more youthful, relaxed and vibrant appearance. As well as being very effective at reversing the signs of aging, Botox can also be used as a preventative measure. Botox can be used to proactively prevent lines and wrinkles from becoming deeper and more visible, or in some cases from ever appearing at all.

What preparation is needed for Botox?

To reduce the possibility of bruising after Botox, 10 to 12 days before receiving injectable treatments we recommend avoiding aspirin, St. John’s wort, omega-3, high doses of vitamin E, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory‘s, for example, Aleve, Motrin, Advil, and ibuprofen, etc. If you take aspirin for medical purposes, please continue to use. If you have recently suffered from facial cold sores please notify your aesthetic injector before receiving injections, and follow a recommended treatment plan.

How is Botox administered?

The treatment begins with mapping out your customized treatment plan, reviewing pre/post care and answering all your questions and concerns. The injection process takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes and involves a series of small injections using a very fine needle into the muscle of the preferred treatment areas. Discomfort is usually minimal if any and very brief.

What can I anticipate after treatment?

There is very little if any downtime or recovery needed. Refrain from exercise after Botox for at least four hours, or any strenuous activity that can cause sweating. Additionally, for four hours after treatment avoid laying completely flat, or engaging in activities where your head is below your heart. Do not rub or massage the treated areas so that the Botox can remain undisturbed. Botox, just like any other injection, may cause some bruising and swelling. We have some special techniques that we use to minimize the swelling and bruising associated with Botox injections. However, if bruising and swelling occur it will subside in a few days. Some mild redness and tingling is normal after the procedure and should dissipate after a few hours. Makeup can be applied 15 minutes after treatment. If you experience any discomfort at the site of the injection after the procedure this can easily be controlled with Tylenol. Reports of feeling flu-like symptoms may occur and don’t typically last or turn into flu.

Proactive maintenance

Muscles have muscle memory and for many people tight is the normal state of their facial muscles. Botox is very effective at re-training muscle memory. Through multiple Botox treatments, facial muscles can eventually forget the previous state. A more relaxed and smooth state can become the patient’s new normal. Proactive and regular maintenance is the key to achieving optimal results.

Botox for hyperhidrosis

Excessive underarm sweating, known as hyperhidrosis, is a very common issue and can be easily and effectively treated with Botox. Sweaty palms can also be treated with Botox.

With competitive workplaces and forceful social scenes, there has been more pressure on men to look refreshed, confident and youthful.
